Professional Development

We have developed a robust in-house training curriculum that assists our attorneys in developing substantive knowledge and practical legal skills at every step of their career. New associates are introduced to the practice of law at Mintz Levin by way of a comprehensive orientation program that includes programs such as Managing your Workload, Client Service, The History of the Firm, Professional Responsibility, and Pro Bono and Community Service Opportunities. The orientation program is followed by in-depth introductory training in substantive areas of law.

Incoming lawyers in our Litigation, Environmental and Employment, Labor & Benefits Sections participate in a 4-day litigation introductory program that covers topics such as motion practice, depositions, discovery and writing skills. Our Litigation Section also offers a two day deposition training program for junior associates and a one-week trial training program that gives mid-level associates extensive trial experience while participating in a mock trial.

Our incoming transactional lawyers participate in a 4-day business and finance introductory program that provides them with both substantive knowledge (sample topics include formation of entities, corporate housekeeping, capital structure basics and the Securities Acts of 1933 and 1934) and hands-on experience participating in a mock transaction.

After the attorney's first year, training programs continue with a focus on expanding substantive knowledge and enhancing each lawyer's practical legal skills. We believe that practical lawyering skills are an important part of a lawyer's overall professional development. Accordingly, a large number of our training program offerings are designed to build on skills such as negotiation, advocacy, legal writing, drafting and case management.

In addition to advocacy training, we offer interactive programs on drafting and writing skills, finance and accounting for lawyers, negotiation skills, supervisory and delegation skills, business development and many other skills critical to a lawyer's development.

Because many of our attorneys are required to comply with mandatory CLE requirements, we have applied to become a CLE accredited provider so that our in-house training programs are eligible for CLE credit.
