Boston, MA – Stephen M. Weiner, chair of the Health Law Practice of Mintz Levin Cohn Ferris Glovsky and Popeo, P.C., has been selected to receive the 2011 "Good Guy" award presented by the Massachusetts Women's Political Caucus (MWPC). Mr. Weiner will be honored at the 10th annual "Good Guys" award luncheon being held at the Fairmont Copley Plaza in Boston, on March 4th.
The MWPC introduced the Good Guys Awards in 2002 to honor men who demonstrate an ongoing commitment and partnership in achieving equality for women. According to the organization, these awards "recognize that our goals of attaining parity in politics and equality in American society can only be reached through the concerted efforts of men and women in all areas of professional life."

Mr. Weiner has had a long career devoted to the field if health care, as a policy maker, educator, and attorney representing health care services providers in a broad array of matters, in the U.S. and abroad. He has been active in the development of Massachusetts' signature health care reform program as well as in the implementation of the Commonwealth's State-wide interoperable electronic health record initiative. Internationally, he played a key role in structuring the health care regulatory system for Dubai Healthcare City and represents organizations engaged in "medical tourism."
Mr. Weiner currently serves as the board chair of The HealthWell Foundation, one of the leading national charitable organizations providing financial assistance to underinsured persons in need of high cost drug treatments; is a member of the Licensing Board for health care professionals and health care facilities in the Dubai Health Care City, and is a board member of the Massachusetts Health Council. He has served as a board member of the Beth Israel Hospital in Boston and of the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital and as a member of the House of Delegates of the Massachusetts Easter Seal Society.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Weiner served as Chairman of the Massachusetts Rate Setting Commission, Special Assistant to the Governor of Massachusetts for health policy and Director of the Boston University Center for Law and Health Sciences. Nationally ranked by Chambers USA for his strategic and policy work, he has been named the Best Lawyers' 2011 Boston Health Care "Lawyer of the Year," and has been listed in the health law section of The Best Lawyers in America since the section originated, in Who's Who in America, as well as in The Boston Globe Magazine's "Boston's Best Lawyers." In 2009, Steve was named an Outstanding Hospital Lawyer by Nightingale's Healthcare News and was selected in 2008 by Massachusetts Medical Law Reports as a winner of its Rx for Excellence Leaders in Quality award.
Outside of the health care field, Mr. Weiner is a member of the board of trustees of The Boston Ballet, Opera Boston and the New England Conservatory Lab Charter School Foundation.
