Washington, DC – Charles A. Samuels a member in the Antitrust and Federal Regulation Practice of Mintz Levin Cohn Ferris Glovsky and Popeo, P.C. , will testify before the House Energy and Commerce Committee, Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade Hearing, on a draft bill to revise the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act. The hearing is scheduled for April 7, 2011.

In his role as General Counsel of the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers, Mr. Samuels negotiated and drafted the amendments to the Consumer Product Safety Act and the National Appliance Energy Conservation Act.
Mr. Samuels’ testimony before the Committee will center on improving the CPSC’s publicly available database. Specifically, he will testify to the need for improving the law to require the CPSC to resolve questions of the accuracy of a report before its posting on the database. In addition, he will comment on the legislation’s tightening of the definitions of who may report on the database, which will improve and focus the database while retaining the important roles of consumer groups, trial attorneys, and industry representatives on CPSC matters.
