Washington, D.C. – Christi Braun, a Member in Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C.’s Antitrust and Federal Regulation Practice, will participate in a panel discussion at the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) Public Workshop, “Another dose of Competition: Accountable Care Organizations and Antitrust.” The event will take place at the FTC Conference Center in Washington, D.C. on May 9, 2011.
The FTC workshop will address the Proposed Statement of Antitrust Enforcement Policy, which discusses how the federal antitrust agencies will enforce U.S. antitrust laws when competing health care providers create new Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) under the Affordable Care Act of 2010. The FTC and the Department of Justice issued the joint proposed Policy Statement on March 31, 2011, and the comment period ends on May 31, 2011. The workshop’s moderated discussion will feature a variety of industry stakeholders, including health care providers and insurers, as well as academics, health policy and economic experts, and representatives of the FTC and the Department of Justice.
Ms. Braun is a nationally-prominent health care antitrust lawyer. Her practice focuses on counseling health care clients on matters involving antitrust compliance, business transactions, clinical integration, and litigation of antitrust and other commercial matters. Prior to entering private practice, she served as a staff attorney with the Federal Trade Commission. She has represented clients in antitrust litigation in federal and state courts and in antitrust investigations conducted by the Department of Justice, the Federal Trade Commission, and several state attorneys general. She routinely represents physicians, hospitals, ancillary care providers, independent practice associations, physician-hospital organizations, pharmacy services administrative organizations, trade associations and insurers.
Ms. Braun is chair of the American Health Lawyer Association ACO Task Force's Antitrust Committee and co-chair of the Healthcare and Pharmaceutical Committee of the American Bar Association’s Section of Antitrust Law. She is a frequent writer and speaker on healthcare antitrust matters.
She received her M.P.H from the Boston University School of Public Health, her J.D. cum laude from Boston University School of Law and her bachelor’s degree summa cum laude from Creighton University.
