Mintz Levin Attorney Michael Van Loy Selected as Vice Chair Of San Diego MIT Enterprise Forum

San Diego, CAMichael D. Van Loy, an attorney practicing in the Intellectual Property Section of Mintz Levin Cohn Ferris Glovsky and Popeo, P.C., was selected to serve as Vice Chair of the MIT Enterprise Forum San Diego.  Mr. Van Loy will serve in this position for one year.

The MIT Enterprise Forum San Diego focuses on education, networking, and community among business leaders, technologists, capital and service providers in the San Diego area.   The group discusses the business issues of the leading technology and life sciences companies in a public forum and uses a unique business case study method to uncover valuable insights about presenting companies.  The Forum hosts ten programs annually including seven case studies, two special topic programs, and a Summer Wine Social.

Mr. Van Loy’s practice focuses on patent prosecution and related activities, including IP portfolio strategy advising; drafting and prosecution of patent applications; preparation of patentability, infringement, and validity opinions; and licensing negotiations. 

Before joining Mintz Levin, Mr. Van Loy worked as a patent agent for more than five years, first at a national intellectual property law firm in the Silicon Valley and then at a Palo Alto incubator venture fund, where he advised on intellectual property portfolio development strategies and provided in-house patent preparation and prosecution services for a group of seed-stage start-up companies focused on high-tech and chemical analysis. Prior to beginning his legal career, Mr. Van Loy was an environmental research scientist/project manager at a research institute in Palo Alto, where he co-managed and published the results of a large-scale, multi-disciplinary study of the effects of air pollution on human health in an urban airshed.
