Mintz Levin’s Nancy D. Adams Nominated Officer of Prestigious Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters Society

Boston, MANancy D. Adams, CPCU, a member of the Insurance/Reinsurance Group, Insurance/Bankruptcy Group, and Product Liability and Complex Tort Litigation Group of Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C., has been nominated as the sole candidate to serve a three year term as Secretary – an Executive Officer position – of the international Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters (CPCU) Society.   When elected, Ms. Adams would be one of only six women to hold an executive officer position in the organization’s 67-year history.

The CPCU Society is a membership organization of nearly 25,000 credentialed insurance professionals who promote excellence through ethical behavior and continuing education. The Society's members hold the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter designation, which requires passing eight rigorous undergraduate- and graduate-level examinations, meeting experience requirements, and agreeing to be bound by a strict code of professional ethics.

Ms. Adams is currently a governor for the CPCU Society’s Northeast Region and a member of the Consulting, Litigation, and Expert Witness (CLEW) Interest Group. She is also the immediate past president of the Boston Chapter of the CPCU Society and teaches a number of CPCU courses.

Ms. Adams has extensive experience representing and advising primary and excess insurers on the business and legal implications of a variety of complex coverage issues involving personal and commercial lines of insurance. Her experience includes representing insurers with respect to coverage disputes arising under directors and officers, professional liability, managed health care, aviation, fiduciary, financial institutions, crime, automobile, homeowners, and general liability policies. Her practice has involved representing insurers in state, bankruptcy, and federal courts across the country.

In addition to coverage-related matters, Ms. Adams’ practice includes representing clients in products liability and complex tort matters, including class actions. Her breadth of experience includes representing clients in product defect claims arising out of various modes of transportation, including general and commercial aviation, watercraft, trains, and automobiles; forklifts; construction; and medical devices.

Ms. Adams is a trustee of the Insurance Library Association of Boston.  She is also a co-chair of the Emerging Issues Subcommittee, Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee, Litigation Section of the American Bar Association, in addition to being a member of the Steering Committee for the New England Chapter of the Professional Liability Underwriting Society (PLUS).

Ms. Adams and the other CPCU Society leadership will begin serving their terms in October.
