Boston, MA – Attorneys from Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C., served as pro bono counsel to hopeFound in its merger with the Pine Street Inn. The governing boards of the two Boston-based organizations dedicated to ending homelessness, voted to formally merge their organizations. The merger was announced on January 30th.
The combined organization, which will be called Pine Street Inn, will offer a range of services, including permanent housing, emergency shelter, street outreach, substance abuse treatment and job training and placement.
“Mintz Levin was pleased to be a part of the merger of two of the city’s most respected and most effective charitable organizations,” said Anthony E. Hubbard, a Member in Mintz Levin’s Corporate & Securities Section. “As one entity, they will be able to build on their combined strengths and provide an even greater range of services to the city’s homeless population. Like other leaders in the public and nonprofit sectors, we hope this transaction serves as a model for consideration by many other organizations.”
In addition to Mr. Hubbard, Katherine B. Weir and Jonathan Urbon, attorneys in the Corporate & Securities Section, Andrew Matzkin, Paula A. Lyons, Adelita C. Press and Patricia A. Moran, attorneys in the Employment, Labor and Benefits Section, and Daria Niewenhous, of the firm’s Health Law Section, provided counsel to hopeFound in connection with the merger.
“We are so grateful for the invaluable guidance that Mintz Levin provided to hopeFound throughout this process,” said Mary Nee, Executive Director of hopeFound. “Their willingness to provide their legal services pro bono, helped to ensure that the mission of hopeFound will continue to be carried out through this merged entity.”
Ms. Nee will step down from her position as Executive Director and will serve as a consultant to Pine Street Inn during the transition. The merger is expected to be complete in March 2012.
