On April 20, 2004, after months of uncertainty, including rigorous congressional debate and heavy criticism by organized labor, the Department of Labor (DOL) released its final rule updating the eligibility for overtime under the "white collar" exemptions to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). These exemptions, which apply to executive, administrative and professional employees, have not been revised for 50 years.
