Diversity's Inherent Value and Its Impact on Mintz Levin's Business

Diversity at Mintz Levin brings with it many important personal and professional benefits. Working with colleagues from a wide range of backgrounds broadens our view of ourselves and the world, forces us to reconsider our assumptions about others, and helps us approach problems more creatively. Our clients and potential clients value diversity and increasingly demand it from their law firms. Ten months ago, at the Call to Action conference in Phoenix, Arizona, many CEOs and general counsels of the largest corporations in America committed themselves and their companies to expanding diversity in their own workplaces and to requiring diversity in the law firms that they use. We are beginning to see the results of that commitment. It is rare today to receive a Request For Proposal from a domestic company that does not ask for detailed information regarding the diversity of our attorneys. An increasing number of companies are giving significant weight to this factor in evaluating the responses to their requests and more and more clients are insisting on diversity in their service teams. This practice will undoubtedly increase as the diversity of in-house counsel and the commitment of corporations to diversity grow. Our roster of excellent women, minority, and GLBT attorneys, as well as our sponsorship of and involvement in a variety of organizations that support diversity in the legal profession allow us to provide the best possible legal services to our clients. They also give us a real competitive advantage over those firms who don’t have a diverse workforce. So as we finish one fiscal year and move into the next, we need to remember that diversity in our lives is important not only for personal and professional growth, but also for the growth of our business.
