Immigration Alert: New I-9 Form Released, but Previous Form Still Acceptable

9/1/2009

On August 27, 2009, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) announced that the Office of Management and Budget was extending approval of the existing Form I–9 (Employment Eligibility Verification) to August 31, 2012 (see previous alerts here and here). As such, USCIS has amended the form with a new revision date of August 7, 2009.

Employers are advised that they may continue to use either the existing Form I–9 (with a revision date of February 2, 2009), or the newly released version (with a revision date of August 7, 2009). The revision date is located on the bottom right–hand section of the form.

To obtain a Form I–9 and/or the Handbook for Employers, visit www.uscis.gov/i–9. Employers who do not have computer access may obtain a Form I–9 by calling the USCIS toll–free forms line at (800) 870–3676.
