Last week, Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee Chairman Mike Enzi (R-WY) and Ranking Member Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA) released details of legislation aimed at improving the safety of prescription drugs. According to a two-page outline of the legislation, which has not been publicly released, the bill would give the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) significant new authorities and affect the manner in which the agency reviews, approves and monitors drugs.
